Patio Set

Photobucket

So we finally bought our patio set from my favorite store in town. It was on sale.. and it was a no tax day. For those who are not aware of this, in Canada - taxes are like 13% - pretty high in my opinion.. for a place where one can get a new landed property for as low as $125K as compared to home of $1.3 million. Back home where the standard of living is higher.. the GST we paid were mostly included in the price that we see .. and only at 3%.

Why did we wait so long to get the patio set..?? because we are pretty el cheapo.. and only feel that we will only buy things at the right price.. and not necessary the right time. So PB put it together.. one evening when it was really hot in the house. Glad the man is very handy .. and can do stuff like this on his own. Oh.. and special thanks to Uncle Jerry for helping us bring the patio set home from Superstore.

I had PB’s tuxedo out for the hospital gala’s - a huge event here in our small town. As small business owners… and just about anyone living here, we feel that it is very important.. that we are involved in charitable work. But at the end of March.. yesterday ..we had snow on the ground.. !!!!!! *slap forehead* .. ! when is the warm coming..?? I promised myself to write this down.. so i know.. and wouldn’t hope too much for the sun.. and warm next year. The weather is crazy here.. one day warm.. and one day snow.. or raining. Suxs big time..!

Jewelry & I

Filed under: Amusing/Musing, Useful Links 101, Beauty, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 2:51 pm

I’m sure you know by now that I’m a picky shopper when it comes to buying jewelry. For one, I have to like the design and secondly the price has to be right. Like any woman on earth, we pride ourselves in knowing where and what to get at the right time. For Designer Jewelry that we like, I need to make sure that i can justify spending the money since it is not a necessity but a luxury and I’m sure you know where I’m coming from.

I also like to pick unique pieces of jewelry and not those that are mass produced because it can be quite embarrassing to be seen with the same piece of jewelry as someone else in a cocktail. Holsted Jewelers have a wide range to suit anyone’s budget, plus they offer free shipping and guarantee each and everyone of their pieces of jewelry. You can’t go too wrong with a place that had been doing jewelries for more than 30 yrs eh.

9 Yrs & First Ring

9 Yrs in Canada.. and this is the first ring PB bought for me from here. Why..?? all these years.. i never found anything i liked here. I love our Chinese gold.. and the diamonds are not of the best cuts here. For someone who had bought the Lazare diamonds for earrings.. i’m sure you can understand why i don’t think other diamonds.. are just not for me. Yes..! i’m fussy with my jewelry .. and i rather not buy things .. that are sub-standard. I’m not high class, just don’t feel a need to waste money on something i don’t really like… i’m sure you can understand it. Why I bought this..?? it was an unusual pattern here.. you don’t see many of this kind here.. so i bought it. A grocery trip.. ended up.. with PB a few hundred dollars poorer . .because we bought Keegan something too.. muahahahahahah!!!

PS : Chloe took this picture… because she wanted this ring as well.

UGG Boots won’t Make you go Ugh!

Coming to Canada and enduring such horrid winters can make one feel quite frumpy and dowdy, if you know what I mean. 6 months of winter here in Nova Scotia sure is hard for just about anyone, but for some in Nunavut like my dear friend Aida, I am sure she can appreciate why I only buy Ugg boots. These are boots that won’t make me or others looking at me go “Uggghhh..!!”. After all it was Jennifer Aniston who wore them first and I love how fashionable she is.

Well of course there is more to it than that, they are made of sheepskin and originated in Australia. Don’t be fooled though because there are lots of imitation Ugg boots out there and you really don’t want those because wearing boots made of synthetic leather is the worst. Your feet smell and it gets pretty sweaty and hot after awhile. One place to look for information about Ugg boots and how to avoid buying fake ones is at http://www.buyitrighthere.co.uk/, do check it out before buying them so you will know how to take care of your Ugg boots and also learn what you are paying for and why they cost more than other brands of boots. Plus, find out if your man would love a pair too.

Wholesale Prices For Electronics

Filed under: Business/Career, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 6:00 pm

As the woman of a man who loves his electronics/games & toys, you know that special occasions can be really hard and trying just to get him something decent and affordable that he doesn’t already have. After all, he thinks he knows where to get the best stuff at the best prices. But come on, we women can be tech savvy too, right? This is the 21st century we are talking about here and we should be just as good at, if not better, when it comes to buying the best stuff at competitive pricing.

Online Shopping for electronic goods has never been easier now that I’ve found LightInTheBox.com. Newsmy is a China-based company that carries more variety of goods than anywhere else I know online. From car electronics to digital AV, media players, cellphones, laptops and the works at wholesale prices. Check out their media players starting at $0.99, pretty awesome pricing right? Track all your shipments online and their warranty is good for 1 year.

This company, although based in China, is a global online distributor and has been serving customers from different countries for many years. With more than 100,000 products I know that one can find just about anything and everything here. And the best part - unbeatable prices! So don’t let the man tell you you don’t know where to buy great electronic stuff/gadgets.

Shop, Confess & Win

When I shop, i can sometimes go a little crazy! don’t believe me..?? ask the man.. and he will tell you the things i do to hide my shopping spree. Well.. that was a long time ago, i learn to control myself a lot after becoming a mother. But then I also have online shopping that makes shopping so easy even when it is -17 out there in the winter months. And then I will be so guilty after spending all those extra money.. and try to justify it to myself. I know you know where I’m coming from.

Well, here is a chance for you and I to win big in this contest, that way we don’t have to feel guilty for what we buy eh. This is what you do, if you ever bought something and hid it from your spouse, your mother or even your siblings, just take a video or write it out like a story, of what you did, what you bought .. and fess up.. and you stand to week $1,500 every month and a grand prize of $15,000. Of course, only the best video/story will win.. so come on and give it your best shot and sign up here.

Being a mom is not easy.. as you can all see and to lighten up, moms must all wear funny t shirts. Why you ask me..?? pretty simple.. it can get stressful.. when the kid doesn’t wanna listen to you or the spouse kinda dirty the place or even when the babysitter doesn’t show up on time. So with a funny t-shirt.. it can work actually kill 2 birds with one stone, get the message across.. or make things less stressful for you. So i’m all for moms to wear funny t-shirts on bad hair days.

Going Nuts This Christmas!

Filed under: Food Review, Health, Amusing/Musing, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 9:10 pm

Every year during Christmas we really try and give gifts that mean something to everyone, not just any gift we pick up randomly. But we all know it’s hard to pick gifts for just about everyone.. so to make things easy.. we pick a theme each year. This year we are going nuts about Christmas, so friends and family can expect nuts & chocolates (a little) for Christmas, after all, who doesn’t like nuts and chocolates?

Finding a place with a variety to choose from and who promptly delivers our good wishes with those christmas nuts is important. I want to be able to get the man to do all the online shopping with me. I know he will be more than happy to shop online rather than follow me to the mall and fight with tons of people who are also trying to do their Christmas shopping, with screaming kids in the hallway. Or fight with the weather and try mail them out for me. And worrying whether they will arrive on time.

Anyhow, this year we are shopping smart at ohnuts.com, you can place your orders online or call them by phone if you don’t want to use internet payments for whatever reason. You get to track your orders and know exactly when your gift is arriving. You don’t have to worry about damaged goods because they believe in giving the best to their customers. Go nuts like us this Christmas, the hassle free way.

Christmas Gifts

Filed under: Amusing/Musing, Around The World, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 1:38 pm

Christmas is just round the corner and if you know me and PB well, you know that we are master procrastinators when it comes to Christmas gift shopping. Not that we hate shopping or Christmas, it’s because we own our own business and like everywhere else in the world Christmas is the busiest time for us. Since we have lots friends in the United States, it is the season of giving and showing love even though we are so far away and unable to be together.

As far as I know no one refuses Christmas chocolate gifts, even those who are allergic to chocolate. After all if they can’t eat it, they can always share it with someone in the family or party/gathering during this holiday season. With such a large selection to choose from one should have no problem picking up a gift online for the extended family or business associates. What I like best about Oh! Nuts is that they are Kosher, and for those who are not sure what it means, it is food that’s fit for consuming by your Muslim friends. I feel absolutely confident shopping for my Muslim friends here. I wish they shipped internationally, but at the moment I can only be content with sending these chocolates, dried fruits and nuts, to my friends in the States.

Being a kid in Asia is not easy.. because of how competitive everything is. But being a kid in Canada.. well.. it’s not easy.. on other aspect. Take for example our babysitter .. Keegan, she is shopping for her prom dress now.. and prom is in May 2009. The one she is interested in . .is $500 .. and they are not for rental. By the time the night is over.. she would be at least $1000 poorer. Why..?? well .. first thing first, the dress for $500. She and her friends will be booking a limo.. and then a hotel room.. to store their stuff. Ok.. now the hair.. and then her make up. .and the accessories.. that goes with her dress… and what about her shoes..?? and the many pictures she is gonna take..?? Easily ..$1000 there.. see what i mean.. it’s not easy being a kid here.

So don’t fret like me .. and think that i needed more laptop memory because sometimes, i used the laptop to watch The Four TVB Series.

Prom Dress For Keegan

Filed under: Amusing/Musing, Useful Links 101, Beauty, Shopping, School - Mama BoK @ 2:52 pm

Our babysitter Keegan is in Grade 12 this year it is a big year for her. From Prom to finishing school and then going to nursing school next year, all trying to fall into its place. One of the most important events of the year for all Grade 12 students, if you don’t know by now, is Prom Night. It is definitely a night to remember, almost like telling the whole world that yer a big gal now. So of course Keegan has been talking about looking for evening gowns already, but as you all know we are a very small town and don’t really have many places in the mall for such exquisite looking dresses.

But guess what Keegan said, she was going all out for a puffy dress *slap forehead*. Unlike her, I prefer a practical dress. Something that I can wear again. After all they are not cheap eh? Evening dresses like this one are simple yet elegant. I love the embroidered pattern on the upper part of the dress and the sheer material makes one look really soft and sexy, subtle yet noticeable. It’s in the price range of what Keegan was going to spend on her prom dress too, so if I were her I would buy something like the one pictured below so that I can use it again for other occasions like a wedding or a party/cocktail in the future. In fact, this dress can be worn for dining in a fine restaurant too and we do that a lot. Plus they do ship worldwide, so if Keegan orders a dress from Splendid Gowns, she will be able to get it before Prom Night.

Fall Fashion For Mums

This was listed in the Fall Fashion at Stylehive about 3 weeks ago. Had I known about Stylehive at the time I would have bought this since it was less than USD $30, but now it is not available anymore. What a bummer! It’s not always possible for me to up and leave the store and go shopping, but I’m always trying to stay on top of things and stay trendy too. After all, being a mum doesn’t mean that you need to be frumpy and wear a housecoat all day even if you are a stay at home mum. Like all mums around the world, we look for stylish things that are affordable and fit into our household budget so we don’t overspend.

The Fall Fashions at Stylehive are actually a collation of hip and cool items from people from all over the world who want to share their findings with you. It is constantly updated and helps women like me to stay informed and get the best buys. You find not only fashion wear but home cuties and other fun stuff there, anything that’s hot and fresh can be found. I might not be able to afford the latest Bottega, but it’s always good to know where I can get a good price when I do want one.

And yes.. she loved it.. wore it for Ciarra’s baptism.. and wore it to work yesterday. And today she is back to school again.. for 4 days.

Cadillac Pt 2

Filed under: Amusing/Musing, Motor, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 2:37 pm

A month ago I wrote about how the Cadillac reminds me of my grampie’s car and I remembered how much he used to praise his Caddy and boast that it was the most reliable car he ever owned. And since I’ve got to get a 2nd car because the kid is in school now and it’s better for me to drive her to school instead of getting PB to do it.. for sometimes it can get busy at the store, we decided to take a peek at what models the Cadillacs can offer me today. I have to say I was quite impressed with used Cadillacs Harrisburg PA, the car models included the DeVille, DTS, Escalade, CTS, STS, SRX, XLR and others.

But I’m fussy and I’m looking for a special type of car that doesn’t need a lot of gas, is good on mileage and is affordable. And what I hate most about going to look for a car is when the sales person talks down to you or makes you feel like you don’t know a thing about cars. For those staying around the Harrisburg, PA area you are lucky because the sales people there are experienced and will never make you feel small. You’ll be completely satisfied and informed about your car. And if you are anything like me, we like to go to the people who treats us well.

Personalized Music & Books For Kids

Like any parents I am sure you only want to buy things for your child no matter how old they are, gifts that can help them with their development and also nurture them. Whether it is to stimulate them mentally or physically, we want to choose carefully and make sure that she/he benefits from it. I am not any different from the other mummies out there and personalized gifts for children from KidsMusicBoxCD.com are what I find to be the best thing any parents can buy for their kids. These personalized music cds and story books are pretty unique and very affordable. I find that Chloe responded to music, rhymes and story books better when they shout out her name during stories and songs.

You can choose from soothing lullabies to entertaining sports CDs and many different stories to integrate your kid’s name into the lyrics or story line. I noticed the delightful squeal when Chloe first heard her name in a story and the name of the town she lived in and they get to hear it as many as 98 times in a song or book. It’s wholesome and your kids learn from it, plus you can even ask to print their name on the label and leave a special message from the giver. Designed for kids age 1 - 14, I say start them young and help them learn to love reading and singing. Great gifts from Grammie, Grampie and even Godma..!

Pictures Crazy Mom Needs Printer

Filed under: Brat Stuff, Amusing/Musing, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 10:19 pm

Photobucket

2nd day at school this week. Told yer I was a picture crazy mom.

I used to own a 35mm camera but ever since giving birth to my lil’ brat, PB invested in a digital camera. Now that was some 4.5 yrs ago and we never looked back. The amount of photos that I had taken of Chloe and everything around me, since I need to send pictures home and to relatives, godma and grandparents included, is massive. I sometimes spend hours in a photo shop at our local mall, just to print out pictures to send out to various friends and family for special occasions. But you can imagine the crowd and the wait.. and the “I feel so bad for keeping you in line” during the festive seasons when everyone wants to do the same for their loved ones. This year, the man & I decided that we should invest in a new printer, something like an HP LaserJet 4000 (c4118a) because then we wouldn’t have to waste time waiting in lines and driving to the mall just to print out all those photos. With a good printer in our own store (we own our own business), we can even offer this additional service to our customer/s.

As always, we’ve done our little research, went to look at the printers physically and this is what we concluded. The HP LaserJet 4000 is not only the latest in printing technology it also offers enhanced quality for great pictures thus printing out smooth photo-like images. It can also print up to 17 pages per minute. While other machines take a long time just to start up, the HP LaserJet is quite fast and only takes 17 seconds to get ready, so whether we use it for the customers or ourselves, it’s efficient. It has a great print resolution thus making it great for photo printing (meaning for photo crazy moms like me). The printer tray is easy to maneuver and can hold up to 500 sheets and the memory is expandable from 4MB to 100MB. It also has an option for ethernet connections and uses a parallel connection making it compatible with most OS’s. Most importantly it is quite affordable, not more than $120 if you know where to get it. I’ll say get it if you are like me, who loves picture taking and have family and loved ones to keep in touch with.

And this is the printer [(HP LaserJet 4000 (c4118a)] we wanna get.

Subaru, An Old Friend

Filed under: The Other Half, Motor, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 8:04 pm

Subaru is an old friend. The ones I grew up with were very small and squarish. When anyone talked about a Subaru car three things came to mind - small, Japanese and affordable. But that’s not always the case anymore, in fact the new Subaru DC shop has models that cater to just about anyone from all walks of life. Whether you are a sporty type, a housewife ferrying your kids to school or just someone who needs to get to work and back, they have a model to fit your needs.

I’m sure you know that your Subaru cars are manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan and if you are in the Washington, DC area, you are in luck because any Subaru Vehicle model you need can be found at FitzWay. In most cases at a discounted price too. There will be absolutely no need for any haggling because every vehicle is already discounted.

And you are always welcome to go test drive, compare prices and talk freely to the friendly and knowledgeable sales representatives without any obligation or pressure to buy. The new Subaru Legacy has never looked better. The new Subaru can be bought and viewed at White Flint Subaru in Rockville or at Gaithersburg Subaru.

GMC Truck

Filed under: Business/Career, Amusing/Musing, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 12:34 am

In a town full of fishermen it is not surprising to see trucks on the road all the time. But I guess it shouldn’t be of any surprise to me since the trucks are used to nets and lobster pots down to the wharf and back. I have also heard stories of our fishermen paying for their new GMC trucks in cash. I’m pretty sure owners at New GMC Manchester NH would love some customers like this too.

I know of someone who could use a new GMC truck instead of his old beat up one! And that is Grampie..! I bet my father-in-law would love the all new GMC Sierra, it’s quiet and has a spacious interior so delivering vegies and fruits to our local stores would be a lot easier and more enjoyable. Plus with the Active Fuel Management it must mean that it is not quite that expensive to run as compared to that old beat up truck he now uses. And Richard, my brother-in-law, had mentioned about the towing capacity of this all new Sierra and how it can handle just about any job. It would be very handy for his current project of building his own cabin.

Mazda CX7

Filed under: Business/Career, The Other Half, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 9:30 pm

We currently have a Ford Focus and in another few more months, our 5 yrs of paying for it will be over. PB is looking forward to enjoying the car finally and of course having the extra cash every month as well. But we also know we need another car now that the kid is going to school this fall. I grew up watching Mazda cars outside my grandfather’s house and am no stranger to it. Yes, it is a Japanese car and the Japanese do manufacture tons of them every year, but they are a good car and I like the styles. When I was way younger I wanted to own a Mazda RX7 but of course now at 43 this is a different story altogether.

New Mazda Manchester NH has the used Mazda CX7 that I am considering. And I hear that if you want any used Mazda 3 that is affordable without compromising the power or responsiveness of the car you must talk to the people at Werner. They do give you the best package along with the car and will always be there to answer all your queries. Whatever your price range or model preference, for your next Mazda in the Manchester NH area, you know who you have to look up.

Mercedes Benz In Washington DC Area

Filed under: Business/Career, The Other Half, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 5:03 pm

When it comes to cars, no one can dispute that the Mercs is one of the best in town. One of the very first cars that I drove was a Mercedes Benz C Class C180 and after driving something like that, you know that you can never drive a smoother machine. I’m sorry if I sound biased, but truth be told I would buy a Mercs anytime if I could afford it. I think everyone associate the Mercs with prestige and even though some say that they are for older men or women I beg to differ. The Merc has come a long way, besides being a smooth ride it currently has models for just about everyone in the family. I’ll take a GL-class since I need to shuttle the kid and her friends around.

So if you are looking for a new Mercs around the Arlington area, you will have to drop in at New Mercedes DC and check them out. They can get you just about any model of Mercedes you are interested in. Test drive one without any obligation and speak to the experts at American Service Center where they have hundreds of new Mercedes in the Washington DC area. They’re the people who promise to get you want you want.

Koons Toyota Camry

Filed under: Family/From the Heart, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 11:02 am

The Toyota Camry has come a long way, I am sure you remember your first one, the squarish looking kinda tin box that everyone was making fun of all those years ago. 1988 was the time I drove my first Camry and don’t you laugh at me now, it was still one of the best car I had that didn’t give me a lot of road trouble.. and it didn’t need a lot of gas. I was pretty happy with it. But looking at the current Camry, it sure looks awesome and stylish and is definitely something that I can see myself driving in, not afraid of being laughed at by my peers.

I saw the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid at the 2006 Washington Auto Show and I know that at Toyota Camry Virginia not only sells new cars but reliable used ones too. From mini vans to SUVs and trucks .. if you need to haul stuff they’ve got you covered. They do complete auto servicing too. They also aid you with financing and have good offers on low percentage loan rates for your new or used car. Everything under one roof is what Koons Toyota is all about with a well stocked auto parts department. You never have to look elsewhere to get your questions answered as all their staff are experienced and ready to assist. Whatever Toyota vehicle you need with any kind of customizations and, most importantly, affordable financing is always available.

We’ve always believed in buying quality stuff for the brat. We ourselves can use generic stuff.. but when it came to the brat.. we only buy the best. No wonder, she never did seems interested when i showed her the strollers that i would use for her baby.. a few weeks ago.

Cadillac

Filed under: Family/From the Heart, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 7:34 pm

When you think of a Cadillac, you can’t help but think of quality and for me at least, the movie “Grease” immediately comes to mind. Yes! I saw that movie in the theater 8 times! Yes, you can call me crazy. But my grandfather used to drive a Cadillac and he sure loved that “thing”… that he called his wife (bless his soul), therefore I can identify with a Cadillac. The Cadillacs have come a long way from the classic styles to the now trendy and sporty ones for the younger consumers, and other models to cater to the family man or the housewives ferrying their kids to school and piano classes and sport games.

I guess even my grandfather would be in awe with the new Cadillacs Harrisburg PA has to offer their customers if he was alive right now. Here you find a group of very experienced and dedicated people who spent many years with one mission and goal, to make each and every customer completely satisfied. They were the few elite dealers selected to franchise the HUMMER brand in 2002 and are now similarly as proud to bring you this classic brand of car, the Cadillac. So if you are around Harrisburg PA you need to come look at all the new Cadillacs that are in stock now. Test drive one, talk to the sales people and of course check out the service team while you are at it. Nothing is more important than a great service team, trust me.. ! I had a car for the last 7 yrs from the same people and it’s great to have your car serviced by people who know it inside out.

Trash Compactor Bags

Filed under: Amusing/Musing, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 11:41 pm

Trash compactors are popular in our homes in the west because we don’t get to throw our trash out in a general area like we do back home in Asia. Or if you live in a private estate it gets picked up outside your house everyday. Here trash is taken out every week and one week is for compost (food) and another week for garbage. So you can imagine how much garbage a family can collect within 2 weeks before we can clear it out completely to get picked up by the garbage man.

A trash compactor helps to reduce the volume of trash by up to 75% and all it needs is a little space in your kitchen or your boat, and some general maintenance. But having a trash compactor also means finding the right kind of trash compactor bags for it. At Trash-Compactor-Bags.com they have a wide range of household compactor bags for brands including Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, KitchenAid and more.

Ordering online is easy peasy and shipping by UPS is within 2 days so you will never run out of trash compactor bags. Speed and efficiency are their middle names and every order shipped out is checked for accuracy both in quantity and the quality of the bags you ordered. You can depend on them for all your trash compactor supplies, not just the bags, for they also have accessories and parts to cater to your needs. I love the carrying caddy best and with this I don’t have to be afraid of dirtying my kitchen floor any more. Awesome..! Check out their best value on 60 pack boxes..! Order now.. and get a free wine opener with every purchase.

Another Toy???

Filed under: The Other Half, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 11:21 pm

The man had been so great .. during my health episodes.. and was staying in the hospital with me.. full time.. and not even complaining at all. And now that the prices of the playstation 3 are so cheap .. and one with a 40 gig going for less than $400 .. i am seriously considering buying it for him. But he already has so many toys.. plus since we own our own store.. and do get a fair bit of previously owned systems.. we are just too spoilt to get a new one. I’ll probably wait till a used one comes in eh..?
