Yes.. ! for once.. PB finally got something he wants.. for a long time. An xbox 360 is currently sitting in our TV room .. and no.. i donch believe in getting any system for $1K for whatever reason, unless of course we strike lottery and become a millionaire. But as of now.. we only had a million hair.. we cannot afford to splurge like some folks do here in this town.

You must be thinking i’m incoherent..?? how would we get an xbox 360 if we didn’t pay premium dollars?? Well.. 2 weeks ago.. dude came in to sell us his dead xbox360 .. yes.. he knew it was dead.. and he was pretty honest about it.. but he needed cash.. and wanted to know if we would buy it for parts. And since he had 2 controllers that came with it.. PB thought .. why not.. pay him for the 2 controllers.. well at least that would sell. So yup.. we paid $40.00 for a dead xbox 360 and 2 controllers. Good deal..?? Nah.. not with a dead machine. But oh well.. dude needs money real bad.. so we tried to help.

Yes.. she is silly and wants to eat peanut butter.. and of course we let her. Afterall, she doesn’t ask for much to eat, so we do let her indulge if she wants to.. once a week. But she is beginning to like peanut butter alot these days… and would even ask PB to smear peanut butter onto her crackers. And yes.. if she is in the mood.. she will pose for you. She can be a brat if she wants to.. but mostly she is a good kid.

Udon & Carrots

I am sure you all know I have very little repertoire when it comes to cooking. But for the sake of my brat, who doesn’t eat outside food, i have had no choice but to cook. And i really try to cook stuff that has got all the nutrients in it. I bought some baby carrots that were dirt cheap last week, so since i know the brat wouldn’t eat it stir-fried.. i had no choice but to try putting them into the udon. But they didn’t turn out great.. because it was still quite hard.. after cooking. .and the brat just refuses to eat it.. even after cutting them up into small pieces. So here i was thinking i’ll save some time .. by using baby carrots.. no need to cut and scrub.. but what’s the point if the brat doesn’t wanna eat right..?? So a wasted effort lah.. in the end.. i was the one eating up those carrots you see here. Bummer eh..?

Goji Berries

Filed under: Health, Useful Links 101 - Mama BoK @ 11:09 pm

As chinese we all know the benefit Goji Berries. We grew up with Goji Berries in our soup on a daily basis, in our chinese dishes and some like me put in Goji Berries even in our famous and local dish call “Bak Kut Teh” .. when i do cook some at home. Goji Berries has a long history of good health, I remember my grandmother used to explain why putting Goji Berries into soup is good for the eyes and give strength to the body. But today, you and I know that Goji Berries also known as wolfberries, actually does more than that. I heard it not only helps you control your weight but improves your sex life too.

Of course, you must know that Goji Berries are a great source of Vitamin C and are grown in pollution free valleys of the Tibetan and Mongolian Himalayas. There are so many nutrients and benefits from taking Goji Berries and its product like Goji Juice on a regular basis. So if you want to stay healthy, try a packet of Goji Berry. These tiny red seed might not seems much to you, but it’s sure packed with all the good stuff.

And we’re pleased to announced that she is about 100 cm about 3.3 feet tall. Chloe is so pleased with herself.. and not only measured herself once .. but a few times.. ;) Basically, she is a pretty well-behaved kid.. when we go out. And truly adorable.. and i’m not even being biased.. mauahaaahahahah!! i’m just being a mummy.. ;)

City Of Events Throughout The Year

Manchester is in UK. When folks talk about Manchester, they only think of football and anything related to Manchester United. But I can assure you that Manchester is more impressive than just the football team. Being the host of the most events throughout the year, is what Manchester is also well-known for. And what’s Manchester Pride..?? It is the biggest lesbian and gay festival of its kind.

If you are in UK for a holiday, you must never miss out on Manchester, not only does Manchester have a dynamic and innovative arts and museum scene that offers a great many selection of exhibitions with over 90 museums and art galleries, you would love their colourful picnics and flamboyant parades. Manchester Hotels, varies in prices but, you can find one that would suit your budget and meet your expectation.

Charity During Christmas

Filed under: Health, Useful Links 101 - Mama BoK @ 8:22 pm

Charity work has always been important in our family. We try to do our bit as much as we can. When my daughter was younger, we used to keep all the labels of Heinz to donate to the hospital because they get a 5 cents a piece for them from Heinz. So instead of saving the labels for toys for my daughter.. I had painstakingly, removed all the labels and donated it to the IWK hospital in Halifax.

Well.. every year we try to donate something to the hospital, whether it is money or stuff that the hospital can find useful for. This year, we’ve decided that some healthcare cart, would be a great idea for our charity work. What about you..?? do you do your bit for charity..?

Since the loonie is higher than the US$ .. would you like a loonie instead..?? muahahha!! The Canadian dollar kept gaining ground Friday while the U.S. continued to slump to new lows. So far this year, the loonie has gained almost 20 cents against the U.S. dollar. And i heard that it is because of the soaring oil prices that is also contributing to the loonie’s rise.

I remember the days.. my mom would be exchanging our currency for US$ just because. Never did she think the day would come.. when the loonie would be stronger..! Want some loonie.. Ma..??

Fibroids Again

Filed under: Health, Random Ranting - Mama BoK @ 12:47 pm

My fibroids are killing me this month..! i am very agitated.. because it is very uncomfy.. when my menses came… this month. PB helps alot more.. when this happens.. and i am very cranky.

Just the other day.. when we arrived at work.. i told PB to go get me a coffee.. since i was in pain.. i really didn’t wanna walk to Tim’s.. not that it’s far though… but it’s just me. When he didn’t go get the coffee immediately (yes.. i’m anal..! when i asked for something.. it has to be done like NOW), i slammed the jug of water.. onto the counter.. and drank from the jug to take my pain medication..! Yup..! very garang right..??!!??

I felt bad later.. but I WAS IN PAIN..!! And please donch even ask why i haven’t taken care of it.. because you know i would if i could..! like right now..!

Believe it or Not

Filed under: Brat Stuff, Amusing/Musing - Mama BoK @ 12:19 pm

Yes.. believe it or not.. our kids.. are a splitting image of us. Like it or not.. they are what we are. So if your kids behave a certain way.. you know.. and admit it.. it’s you.. and your spouse.

Yesterday afternoon, while eating home cooked udon, the brat asked for Pepsi (we only give her a tiny bit if she does have it). We ignored her at first.. and when she asked again.. PB said.. he’ll think about it. And again we ignored her on purpose.

Guess what happened next..?? The brat called out.. “HALLLLL OOOWW..!! can i have my pepsi please.. ???” That sent me laughing so hard.. !! yer know why..?? coz’ this is exactly how PB and I talk.. if we wanted attention.. or telling anyone.. that they are not paying attention to us. MUAHHAHAHAHAHA!!! It’s the way the brat said it.. that made it so funny.. coz’ it is the exact way we would have said it.. kinda dry sarcastic manner. if you know what i mean.

So folks.. donch say .. no .. when your kids behave in a certain way.. examine yourself first.. before pointing fingers.

Bringing Back The Confidence

Filed under: Useful Links 101 - Mama BoK @ 11:41 am

Once upon a time, when people talk about cosmetic surgery, they associate them with movie stars or someone famous or someone rich. Well, in this day and time, it is far from the truth because one need not be all of the above to want a tummy tuck or a breast uplift.

As a woman of 43yrs old, one notices the change in everything in your body and your skin. My once upon a time “chinese” eyes came with a double eyelid not because my eyes got bigger but because the skin around my eyes got droopy. Hard as it is to admit, you and I know that, that is the truth. And to gain back one self confidence and to reward oneself, I really see no harm in getting some assistance.

But for any surgery, one wants to choose a medical institution that you can trust, and SurgiCare who has 15 yrs of experience in independent surgical procedures, has a reputation because of their most respected surgeons in the UK. Offering the highest clinical excellence during and before each procedure, you can expect the best care you can’t find elsewhere.
SurgiCare is a name you can trust. With over 15 years’ experience in independent surgical procedures, our reputation precedes us. Employing some of the most respected surgeons in the UK, we guard this reputation by getting closer to our patients and insisting on the highest standards of clinical excellence before, during and after your procedure.

Totally confident in their ability to perform the chosen procedure and totally honest about every detail of any procedure is what i admire most of them. Absolutely no pressure in trying to sell you their procedure, they let you take your time to decide and on what you think is best for you. What’s more, they have finance packages for your procedures as well.

Passionate About The Town

Filed under: KNNCCB Stuff, Random Ranting, This Town - Mama BoK @ 2:09 am

We usually keep to ourselves .. alot .. especially if we are not at work. But as you can see, PB & I can be quite passionate, if we feel that something isn’t right in this town. You can see what PB wrote here.

I, myself have spoken to many people in this town, at the store.. and I know that they are not happy about the new municipality building… but they are not doing anything about it.. because they don’t feel that even if they opposed, anything will be done about it. Personally, they feel that the town councils had already made up their mind and there is no turning back.

So this is a communist town..?? no democracy here i see..?? I thought only in Cambodia.. or Iraq or Sudan you see things like this but here in Canada..?? Is anyone out there.. who is bigger than the town councils… here have a say in it..??

One claimed they wanted a building to be proud of..?? for who..? investors..?? tourists..??? I donch get it.. ! ya.. maybe i’m STUPID..! but i still donch see the point..!

Apartment Finder

Filed under: Uncategorized, Useful Links 101 - Mama BoK @ 2:01 am

Finding an apartment to move into is not so easy. It can be a very stressful task, plus where do one begin..? And with so many criteria to consider, for example the location, the number of rooms you want, how big an apartment you need, and of course the cost of the rental and who your neighbors are. For anyone looking to move or relocate whether for school or for work, you surely want to know that the neighborhood is a good one, especially if you are moving with the whole family.

Atlanta Apartments are aplenty, so where do one begin..? If i were the one moving, I would really need a search engine for apartments, where i can find or compare selected few apartments before going to view the actual apartment, that itself would really save me alot of time and money. ApartmentFinder.com, is truly the answer to those finding an apartment in Atlanta area. Customize your search and get the results in minutes. View and browse through photos, floor plans and its surrounds. Definitely, much easier, especially if you do not want to lug your toddler around in such cold weather.

Everything you need to know about any Altanta apartment is at your fingertip. Great stuff.. and definitely a smart way to go about looking for your ideal apartment. No stress, no fuss, the way i like it.

Private Jet Charters

Filed under: Around The World, Useful Links 101, Vacations/Travel - Mama BoK @ 11:42 pm

Flying economy class is uncomfortable at best unless the flight is very short. Going from here to Halifax is only a little over a half hour, so even though the plane is small, it’s bearable. Going across the country though and being in the air for 4 or 5 hours in a small seat is certainly no fun. Upgrading to business class almost quadruples the price, which makes Private Jet charters look like a more attractive option. Granted if you’re flying alone, the price may not be worth it, but if you’re traveling with a group or family members and can split the cost of the trip, you may find that a private jet really isn’t that expensive after all.

New Flight Charters has been specializing in Private Jets for a number of years now and is one of the largest providers of on-demand luxury jets in a wide variety of styles and price ranges. With an accident free record, they are one of the safest carriers in the world today. Round trip airfare starts as low as $950* per hour for an Executive Turbo Prop all the way up to $7,000* per hour for a large cabin jet such as a Gulfstream V. Pick your plane, get a quote and let New Flight Charters do the rest. Their price quotes include everything so there are no surprises later.

Did You Eat In Macdonalds Lately

Filed under: Health, Random Ranting, Around The World - Mama BoK @ 11:04 pm

If you are in Calgary and ate at McDonald’s between Oct. 1 and Oct. 23, you may have been exposed to Hep A. A food handler at a Calgary McDonald’s was confirmed to have the infectious disease. They closed the restaurant for several hours in order to dispose of anything that may have become contaminated and to disinfect the building. The risk is low but the health department is offering free vaccinations to anyone who may have come in contact with contaminated food. Hepatitis A is a virus which attacks the liver and can be spread by food handlers if they fail to properly wash their hands after using the washroom.

Cleaning The Store

Filed under: Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 10:35 pm

I’m sharing my home vacuum with the store, not because we are stingy to get another one.. but because each time we get an upright and bagless one, they just don’t last at all. Plus for the amount of money we spent so far on vacuum cleaner.. and only have them work for a little more than a month .. it’s just not worth it. We tried to bring the vacuum cleaner back to the store we bought it from, to only be told that they only warranty it for a month, afterwhich we needed to send it back to the manufacturer…! NICE..!

Anyhow, we are going to try a new brand this time, can’t be sharing my vacuum with the store forever, afterall, the house needs the vacuum too right. Miele vacuum, have models that are both affordable and on the high end side, but i can only afford the affordable one.

An hour later, when i was getting food ready for the brat for dinner, and wanted to scoop the rice, guess what..?? i didn’t press the “on” switch to cook the rice..!! so i panic.. chloe was hungry.. and i forgot all about the liver..!! what a bummer ..!!! and i didn’t even get ginger to stir fry the ginger instead..!! Californians Return Home

Filed under: Family/From the Heart, Around The World - Mama BoK @ 4:59 pm

I’m very on the news about the wildfire in California because one of our fellow blogger had been evacuated from her home. In high spirits .. even though .. she faced losing her home, FireHorse..! I salute you ..!

I feel for those who’ve lost their home .. and wished there was more we can do for them over here. Many lost alot more, not in terms of monetary but memories. As they move back into their homes for those who have one left, the rest will have to wait for the evaluation team to restore and repair. Please continue to pray for those out there affected.

“More than a dozen fires were still burning, and those in San Diego County, the hardest hit in the region, were no more than 40 percent contained. About 8,500 homes in the county, where the value of housing lost was already estimated at more than $1 billion, were still threatened by the blazes.”

Gifts Of Love

Filed under: Uncategorized, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 4:21 pm

My mom loves buying jewelry as gift. She claims and firmly believes that nobody can resist a piece of beautifully made jewelry. She believes in giving gifts with value, if that make any sense to you. So each time we have a wedding or a celebration of a new born, jewelry it is.

Necklaces are bought most by my mum, the reason is because you don’t have to worry about whether it should fix the neck or not, because you can wear it long or short. Wherelse if it was a ring, it has to fit the fingers.. or if it was a bracelet, it had to fit the wrist. I love pearl necklaces, the more the merrier, one can’t own just one pearl necklace, as far as I am concerned.

These days, you can really get nice pieces of necklaces gift at very affordable prices, plus they are very well designed and lovely to wear. I can’t wait to get my hands on a Jade Dragon Pendant & Necklace, and it’s not expensive either. Christmas is just round the corner, I’ll hint to my mum.

Infuriating Is An Understatement Now

Filed under: Random Ranting, This Town - Mama BoK @ 12:42 pm

Yes.. it’s a real understatement of how i feel right now.. ! I don’t know about the rest of the town.. but this was what i read .. this morning.. on the net.

“The Municipality of Y will proceed with plans to build a much debated and much-talked-about new office building at the site of the former Hebron School. “

The new building would take 30 yrs to pay off and they are saying that it will not impact the tax rate or the municipality’s ability to undertake other capital projects..?? And that the sale of the old courthouse will help pay for the project..??

So the old courthouse ain’t good enough for the municipality office.. but good enough to be sold to some poor sucker..?? How are the taxpayer not gonna be affected..?? so how is the municpality gonna to pay for the new building of almost 5 million..?? call me STUPID..and FREAKING dumb.. ! all these makes no sense to me..?? where is the transparency in it..?? Where is this loan coming from..?? and how is the municipality gonna pay for it over 30 yrs..?? what kinda term and mortgages..??

“Dep Ward BN says he never got the sense that there was widespread opposition to a new building.”

IS HE KIDDING US..??!!!??? 100s of ppl turned up for the town meeting, the nite this was discussed.. there was no room.. ppl were turned away.. so i heard.. and was reported in our local papers.. and he is saying no sense of opposition…??? I better stop now.. else.. i’ll vomit blood..!

PS : I would like to clearly state, I am not into these political stuff at all, but when it affects my children and my children’s children.. then i have to take a stand..! Show me.. that this debt will not be a burden to my children and my children’s children… and i’ll not say another word.

How i wished there were more ppl like the McComack..! Opening their house to the public for a fundraiser for the cancer society is the first they’ve ever done. I bet they must be real excited. Apparently, they have had some success where 2 people peed.. muahahhhaa!!

The Haunted House is open 7 to 9 p.m. each evening until Friday, Oct. 26. They might open the house on Monday and Tuesday nite too, maybe we can bring Chloe eh..?? Prolly not.. she prolly would be frightened.. but for 2 - 3 bucks for entrance fees.. why not eh..??

A Closer Look At one of the world’s most influential Man

Filed under: Uncategorized, Around The World - Mama BoK @ 8:33 pm

I’ve always been very keen and alert with anything to do with China. Who wouldn’t be right..?? Afterall, China is one of the most influential countries with a very booming economy. Yet China’s enigmatic president, is almost invisible outside his native land. He is relatively low-key and guarded and not like his predecessors.

He doesn’t buy international revolution, or Western-style democracy

So what does this great man believe in..?? Your guess is just as good as mine.. even the ChinaMan in China.. can’t tell. But if you ask me.. i quite like this president of China as compared to the others. But there are some issues that like all others not only in China but the world, we too are puzzled and concern about. What about you ..?? what do you think of Hu Jintao?

That man just love to get dirty.. ! and all he ever wants for Christmas are body shop supplies. Yes, you heard me right..! that man loves his automotive tools. If you need anything to be fixed.. you know who you should be friends with. Richard the handyman he is.

Is Y-Town Gonna be Like Nunavut?

Filed under: Amusing/Musing, Random Ranting, This Town, Around The World - Mama BoK @ 7:33 pm

“The Nunavut government is boosting the price of fuel to help prevent the territory from sinking deeper into deficit, Finance Minister David Simailak announced Tuesday.”

So are our fuel prices gonna be raised to fund for the new municipality building as well..?? in the future..?? The government is taking back $9million of the $10 million set aside for the proposed Nunavut heritage center, saying the government needs the money elsewhere.

Will Y-town face the same questioning..?? as to whether the town has taken on more projects than what it can handle? We are all very concerned about the $5 Million that will be spent on the new municipality building. As to where the money is coming from.. as to who was awarded the project..?? as to who will be paying for the new building..?? we all donch quite know what it is all about. Wouldn’t the tax payer of this town.. be interested to see some transparency in this matter..?? I would..!

But donch even get me started on it..! Arrrghhh..!! Aida..! what’s your take on the fuel prices..??

The man is into riding his bike for health reasons. After turning 30, i think he puts on weight alot easier, usually if the weather is cold, he exercises on the stationary bike that we have at home but during the summer.. and late spring, he would be jolly about bringing out his mountain bike and go riding for an hour or so. Being asthmatic and all, one cannot be too careful, so a pulse oximeter, is always with him during his biking outdoors. The one that he has is hospital-grade accurate, and very affordable, so I’m happy and so is he, afterall, he hates it when i keep nagging him.

Cozy & Affordable

Taking vacations need not be expensive and one need not stay in 5 star hotels. I say this because Bed and Breakfast are not only popular in the Western part but they are so much more affordable and personable. The Asian hospitality is not seen in big hotels here in the United States and Canada but stay in a bed and breakfast, you’ll be remembered for a long time by the innkeepers. I love staying in bed and breakfast because they are so homely, especially if you are on a business trips for a few weeks.

A Better Monitor

Two years ago during Christmas, the man wanted to upgrade and buy himself a new monitor, of course there are loads of it in the market, so being the techie in our household and of course an owner to a computer store, he did a little research and what do you know.. ! He chose a viewsonic monitor, and to be honest with you, i didn’t know that viewsonic’s monitor was good either.. because most people go for the popular and branded ones, but according to the man, in terms of prices a 20″ for $300 was a bargain at that time. And now we will only recommend and buy Viewsonic.

Yes.. we do have whales here in Nova Scotia, REALLY, REALLY.. ! We donch really get to see them much.. because they are so far away. A new International Maritime Organization agreement that designates Roseway Basin as an Area to be Avoided (ATBA) could save the lives of more whales. The nearest whale watching for us is at Digby and it’s not cheap to whale watch but certainly a breath-taking experience for anyone.

Wearing Personalities

As far as i am concerned.. babies and toddlers are cute whatever they put on.. but to wear their personalities.. or moods on their t-shirts are just the best ever inventions. Baby clothes needs to be super soft because babies are so fragile and their skin are so soft .. you really don’t want to hurt them with any coarse materials. All mummies are no different than the next, they want to give the best to their children. I’m sure if your babies can talk, they will appreciate it that you are giving them their individuality.

The Rider In Me

I’ve always love horse-riding.. but of course in Singapore.. you would have to be in the elite club to join a horse riding club. But not here in Nova Scotia… and yes.. we do have several horse-riding club in this town… but the funny thing is we don’t have a store that sells horse riding apparel.

At 43, I am thinking of taking horse riding just for fun .. and also to fulfill my childhood dream. I’m really a little nervous.. but i figured, horse riding is not only good a good exercise for me, but a healthy lifestyle to be following.

Mayor Claims Amalgamation Will Happen

Filed under: Amusing/Musing, Random Ranting, This Town - Mama BoK @ 4:33 pm

The Mayor of this town says that amalgamation will happen for this county and if that is true .. then why spend $5 million on this new municipality building..?? to house 13 - 15 office workers..?? It just make no sense to me at all.

There was an uproar recently and a hot topic .. in this town of ours.. about the town spending so much money .. that could be made good use of .. in other areas. God knows we need alot more than a NEW building with health club and day care for these 13 - 15 workers in the municipality building. The mayor has spoken but when amalgamation is going to happen he doesn’t know. An amalgamation is a consolidation or merger, as of several corporations, but how is amalgamation going to help this town..?? I am seriously waiting to see.

Paris City Breaks

A girlfriend who was recently married .. this year.. just came home from her honeymoon to Paris. Flying from Detroit into Paris, well actually she flew from Richmond to Detroit - a 90mins flight and then from Detroit to Paris. Taking one of those Paris City Breaks, Paris is undeniably the most beautiful and dynamic capital cities in the world. When one think of Paris .. one thinks of love in the air. Good food, good exhibitions, good shows (cultural) and musical events. When I think of Paris .. i think of both the old and new coming together.. to give tourist like me the most adventurous and memorable time of all, in this lifetime.

No one can resist Paris as it is quite the romantic getaway for not only weddings, honeymoons but for any special occasion. Visit the famous Eiffel Tower during both the day and night and see for yourself, the breathtaking view in awe. The famous Latin Quarter, Champs-Elysees and of course the world class Louvre Palais Royal, a station in Paris Metro are not to be missed when one is in Paris. Expect designer labels at bargain prices and elegant boutiques when shopping in Paris. And don’t forget those free-lance artist who will whipped out their brushes and do a quick portrait of you, while you enjoy a cuppa cappuccino in cafe on very corner. Sample all sorts of cuisine in Paris, eat at Nodaiwa Paris for the best Unagi kabayaki or have some steak frites lunch at Le Severo. Want to try something more extraordinary..?? why not the a Michelin starred restaurant Les Fables de la Fountaine.

Yes.. I’m bragging as you can see I’ve been to Paris quite a few times. And Paris Weekend Breaks is still on my agenda every chance I can get.

“Canadian retailers should lower prices ‘as soon as possible’: Flaherty”

Jim Flaherty is the Federal Finance Minister in Canada.. if you must know. There is currently large discrepancies between similar products just across the border. The government would not intervene, and can only encourage the retail industry to let the market work. And if the market works, prices should go down. So we are back to square one.. and big boys . .. like i said.. like SuxkkyMart and Zeller, plus Staples .. should match the prices of their HQ.. in the states. But as of today.. at all 3 big boys store.. nothing has changed. Lots of hot air again.. and nothing..!

Garden Furnishing

Living in Canada is wonderful because we always gets lots of land with our house. And like any Canadians .. we love the outdoors very much. The BBQs .. and the evening get together during those summery nights are things we look forward to .. every summer. It is really a great way to stay in touch with your friends and family. And if you know me, I’ve always love big family gatherings because i come from a really small family.. with not too many relatives.

So when we bought our very first home here in Nova Scotia, I wanted to make sure.. that i get some quality garden furniture and what is better than teak garden furniture, that is not only durable but stylish as well. We have teak benches around the outdoor fireplace, so that the kids can gather around.. and play their guitars and sing songs together. And my mother-in-law just love my teak tables around the BBQs .. they are so easy to clean.. and so solid.

All these furnitures can be left outdoors without having to worry that they might rot, it’s natural oils is made suitable for use of any weather and even when not treated, it still works last wonderfully.

Quality mailboxes is a must for my home. I’m pretty fussy when it comes to my mailbox, not only do i want that is beautifully designed and expertly manufactured, I want one that will last me a lifetime. Keystone Mailboxes are very popular in our community and I’ve seen them being mounted around my neighborhood. Stunning, raised solid brass lettering is what attracted me to them and those decorative letterings are durable, making them really stylish and beautiful on your curbside.

The Signature Keystone allows you to personalize your mailbox with different finishes and brass lettering combinations to compliment the color of your home. Making a wonderful first impression with all your guests and relatives to your home. And you’ll have to take a look at Gaines Pedestal Mailbox, they are so classy..!! I really, really want one of those. Did I tell you they have free shipping for this product and it is really easy to assemble it. I can’t wait to show this to my spouse, I’m sure he will agree with me that the Pedestal one is the one for us.

Dwight Performing At The Yarc

Woo hoo..!!! (being sarcastic), Canadian Idol finalist Dwight Deon is performing at the local art center in town..! D’Eon has two shows lined up on Nov. 8 and 9. Both shows are at 9 p.m. and tickets are $21 for all seats. A wee bit expensive.. but yes.. he needs to cover his travelling cost and all. I wonder why they didn’t get a sponsor to sponsor their accommodation and gas .. and what not.. ??

He did seems to have a good head on his shoulder till he mentioned about some grant ..?? from the government..?? You see the Canadians do love their grants and free money.. anywheres they can get it. Heck..! of course i know it’s hard to be a newbie.. but a grant…?? that doesn’t seems right.. as far as I am concern.

Isn’t this terrible..?? It sure is..! a town only with a population of 8,000 and this to happen..?? Female youth .. meaning underage.. and since their name weren’t published .. we can be quite sure.. that they are definitely underage. So when you were a kid, have you even ever thought about eating and not paying up..?? even in a hawker center.. i’ve never in my youth.. thought of doing that..! what’s more, this is a restaurant. All About Stainless Steel

Back home where the humidity is terrible, when one furnished their homes, we go for stuff that are Stainless Steel, all because Stainless Steel does not stain, corrode or rust as easily as ordinary steel.

Plus if you have a man at home, you really don’t want to have anything that is too frilly or too woody, so clean cut Stainless Steel products are actually a medium for both the male and the female sharing the same home. It is really amazing what they have to offer in a Stainless Steel Store these days. Not only are they so pretty and they actually look very smart and very usable as well.

Their products ranges from outdoors to cooking right up to office essentials. Not only are they stylish and very affordable, one just cannot help but admire the wide varieties to choose from. You get to shop online and they accept any major credit card, so there is absolutely no hassle.. if you see something you like and want to purchase it immediately. Stainless steel stores, I am sure are aplenty but one so stylish and affordable, is a rare find.

Baby Product Reviews

Filed under: Uncategorized, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 8:23 pm

As a mummy to a young toddler, I remember those early days where I had to make decisions as to what were the best buy for my daughter, from her receiving blankets, to the milk she takes and what she uses, on my own. My spouse, her daddy would just say.. “it’s up to you” or his favourite “you decide”. But we all know that one cannot be too careful when it comes to a young child. Take for example, when we wanted to get a baby carrier, since there was no one to turn to, for advice, i had to look up for Baby Carrier Reviews on the web.

And why do I need to read about a Baby Carrier Reviews , you might asked..? Well, firstly, as a mummy, I want to know for sure that it is a safe and comfortable product for my child. Afterall, she can’t fend for herself .. nor tell me if the baby carrier was hurting her in anyways since she can’t talk at that time. Call me paranoid or over protective but it is a mother’s job to be all that, and I can’t say anyone will fault you for being too careful.

With reviews from real users and experts, one can decide whether if a product is what you actually want to buy, afterall, spending any money however small it may seems to other people is still good money spent. Baby Carrier Reviews did help me decide and not only that, it actually made me realized that i should be reading review of other products that I may need to buy in the future as well. Checking out on the rpice, brand and its cost is all very important as a smart consumer.

Ya.. ya..! i complained alot.. about the tough shit about owning your own business for 8 yrs.. ! from “wonderful” ex-employees to “super” great customers but i’ll have to say that owning your own business does have it perks. I for one am not into gadgets.. ppl can go ga-ga .. over a new ipod .. or a new xbox 360 or a new cell phone. But me.. i’m the most practical person on earth. If the cellphone works.. that’s all i ask.. no need stylo-malo anything in it. Same goes for the cd player .. that i’ve been using in the bathroom. You see yours truly needs to relax.. when showering or taking a bath.. so some music is a MUST for me. But lately, i haven’t been able to play my chinese songs in my cd no more.. because old already lah.. the cd..! all scratched up.. and stuff. Ya.. ya..i know can download..and then burn.. but we donch think it is right lor.. ! afterall .. gotta support the artists lifestyle right..?? for another mansion. So yes.. someone as per usual.. would come in and sell stuff like an ipod.. or a PSP for at prices .. you would be so tickled.. you can roll on the floor. But you know me lah.. already so good price.. being a chinese jew hor.. get it even at a more ridiculous price. So there.. i got myself.. my first ever gadget.. an ipod 2gb.. for a ridiculously low price.. ! muahahhahaha!! yes.. owners does get their perks..!

Non Profit Referral Service

Filed under: Health, Useful Links 101 - Mama BoK @ 7:16 pm

I live in a little town with a total population of only 8,000 in town. I guess it would be perfect for us if we did not own our own business in this small town. But since we do, we see a lot of “ugly” people coming in and out of our store, just to get a few bucks to feed their addiction. The things they would do just to get some money. Some try to sell just about anything to us, and if they could, they would sell the shirt off their back. Of course, we have those that very desperate and would sell us stolen goods. Yes, you heard me right… stolen goods. They break into their own mother/sisters/brothers/strangers house and take anything they think will get them a few bucks. Sad as it is, we see it happen all the time, and the cops are involved all the time.

Most parents here are quite in denial when it comes to getting help for their kids. But you can’t really blame them, for who would want to air their dirty linen in public. But help must be gotten or else they would continue to hurt themselves and the people around them as well. Intervention is a big word for all those with a drug problem, nobody wants to be told that they are in the wrong and they are not only hurting themselves but also the people who love them. Try telling a normal person that, and even then we will see resistance and denial. Folks with a drug abuse problem will use any kind of excuse to deny themselves of help and rehabilitation.

But there is help, and there are professionals who can assist. But how does one choose the right treatment program for your loved ones..?? Since you can’t go about asking the cops that arrested your kids, nor ask someone else whom you think might have the same problem with their kids, for fear of embarrassing them? A non profit rehabilitation program, offered at no cost to you, provides program information for treatment and recovery from drug and alcohol addictions. Since there are just way too many treatment programs and centers out there, one can get very confused during these trying times, therefore this referral service not only helps you get in contact with the right facilities but also aims to help you select the most effective treatment for your loved ones. They encourage you to show love and support for your loved ones, not to ridicule those that need help. The battle to overcome an addiction is a tough one but they know exactly what you are going through so don’t hesitate to ask for help.

The Apple Donch Fall Far From The Tree

My mother-in-law used to say this to me. And there is alot of truth in it. “The Apple really donch fall far from the Tree”.

Owning your own business, we get to hire alot of ppl to work for us. 8yrs in business..and you tell yourself .. you’ve actually seen it all eh..? Sometimes, you wonder why kids that you hire turns out to be the way they are.. and today.. a father of someone that we’ve hired a long time ago, came in and went on and on.. about how the daughter is doing so good .. blah.. blah.. blah.. and only works hard for “good” money.. and so forth and so forth. Now wonder the poor kid had such bad attitude.. when she was working for us, because ours is “small” money.

Another kid that we hired 8 yrs ago, continues to bad mouth us .. and recommends our competition to his “friends” because he didn’t get his way. Like his parents, they too stopped talking to us.. when their kid didn’t get what he wants. But you see .. our competition is able to do “stuff” for him.. because they were doing “stuff” that weren’t so correct. And we were unable to .. because we refused to break the law. So the ex-employee of us.. skunk us big time.. because we wouldn’t break the law..?? now that the competition is being charged.. so who is getting the last laugh.

Fixing Up The Recreation Room

When we bought our house a few years ago, the first thing that came to my mind was to fix up the basement and turn it into a recreation room for the man. I wanted something good.. so the man can relax after a long day of work.. and entertain his friends there.. and i can have the upstairs of my house.. all to myself.

I wanted to put a pool table in for him, his 53″ tv .. into the recreation room and of course some mini-bar and some retro looking bar stools, to complete the whole retro theme we had in mind. A juke box would be nice but not really affordable at this point of time, so he’ll have to settle for just those retro bar stools i found for him.

Free Magazine

I stopped subscribing and especially buying magazines on newstand.. because they ain’t cheap i tell you ..! but if i was reading them.. religiously.. it’s alright to buy them.. but i end up .. storing them… and never ever get back to reading it.. and it’s just a pure waste of money.

But who can resist free magazines right.. if given to you .. by your cellphone company.. for loyalty points. They do that often enough that i don’t have to subscribe to any mags laterly.. and Today’s Parent is one i really enjoy having.. even though i still haven’t finished reading the first one that I’ve gotten.

Do you buy magazines or subscribe to them…?? i used to buy Her World, Female, Home & Living and almost any women magazines back home.. but not anymore. I just can’t seems to relate to these “ang moh” magazines. What about you..??

Marine Resources

Filed under: Amusing/Musing, Useful Links 101, Entertainment/Movie Review - Mama BoK @ 1:36 am

My niece has recently taken an interest in water sports, especially diving, she is still very young but of course we want to nurture her interests. As an aunt, just like her parents, we want to make sure she gets the best in everything so we told her to first look on the web and find out where she can go for diving classes and find any info related to it.

Octopus.co.uk is a website directory for marine resources such as diving, fishing, boating and other marine travel related services. Not only did we find out more about diving we also obtained some valuable information with regards to other watersports such as a Sub Aqua Club that my niece can start with. Since they have “Try Dives” which are an ideal opportunity to see what diving is all about she will be given vital safety instructions and shown how the equipment works. After a half hour in the pool under supervision, she can then try some real training exercises.

But of course Octopus.co.uk is not only about diving but other very interesting marine resources such as fishing. I am sure folks from our fishing town will find this directory really interesting and helpful.

Well.. as you can see i watch english movies too. Evan Almighty is like Bruce Almight.. with Morgan Freeman again.. and of course my favourite actress .. Lauren Graham. Steve Carell is Evan Baxter.. and the last time we saw Evan Baxter (Steve Carell), he was being tormented by rival Bruce Nolan onscreen, live from their Buffalo TV station. But as time passed and Evan has made up with Bruce, he’s gone onto bigger and better things. Newly elected to Washington D.C. as a congressman, Evan has left Buffalo, New York in pursuit of a greater calling. But that calling isn’t serving in the illustrious ranks of America’s politics, but being summoned by the Almighty himself (Morgan Freeman), who has handed Evan the task of building a new ark, much as Noah did before. With time passing by and his family belittled by Evan’s newfound realization, Evan will have to do the work that God has given him in what promises to be an unusual adventure for a man who just wanted to serve his country, might actually be serving humanity.

Smart Shopper

Shopping smart is what we women do best. Tell me which woman who doesn’t love a good bargain.. a good sale.. or a discounted item. Even my grandmother loves to buy things only when they are a great buy. And women are just such smart creatures.. i’ll have to say we sniff out the best.

Using Discount-Search.com, one no longer need to do alot of sniffing.. because they sniffed out the best merchants, the best buys to help busy working moms like me and you to find what discount and promotions is going on .. on the web. Exclusive discounts are often found only on this site. Whether you need a mobile phone, groceries or even gardening stuff, you can find it here. Navigation is pretty simple, the site is not cluttered and you can just click whatever categories you are interested in to find what you need. Pretty simple, even my grandmother knows how to search for stuff here.

Medicscan

Filed under: Health, Useful Links 101 - Mama BoK @ 12:22 am

Every doctors’ office should get a Medicscan , it would make life alot easier .. for his secretary .. and the few receptionist he already have. Most doctor’s office is always fully booked.. they have so many patients.. it is no joke trying to keep up with all the filing ..and all the medical insurance card in proper order or worst, they have to keep asking the insurance card on every visit instead of having it on file.

The MedicScan will enable the secretaries to easily scan the image of all medical insurance cards of all his patients. They then can be stored as a file on your PC and even can be exported to another application and you can send the info through emails to another medical office if necessary or another computer.

Scanning is easier than ABC, because it is fully automatic. When you insert your medical card, the image processing takes place immediately. Not only does it make life easier for the patients, it is also less paperwork to keep and no more lost information or misplacing them, it will also increase productivity in the doctor’s office and no more copying the wrong insurance card numbers or names.

Seriously, I think all medical office should have a Medicscan don’t you think..?? That way, i don’t have to make sure i have my insurance card with me all the time. It would certainly make life much easier for me.. during an emergency to the doctor’s office or the hospital.

Big Ben Here We Come

The Big Ben is one of London’s best-known landmarks, and looks most spectacular at night when the clock faces are illuminated. You even know when parliament is in session, because a light shines above the clock face. London is one of the most historical places that I’ve been to. It’s abit of the old mixes with the new and the grandeur feeling that one gets when you step into Heathrow Airport .. is quite the overwhelming.

Whether you are visiting the museums, or the historic houses, or praying at St Paul’s Cathedral, or just to admire the architecturer magnificent of the dome, you will surely love London. London welcomes travelers of all ages and all budgets, if you are looking for cheap hotels, to suit your budget, London has plenty to offer and definitely worthy to check out.

But if you are on a business trip, hotels in London are aplenty and you can pick and choose any London accommodation, that you like best. Well whether you are in London for business or pleasure, don’t forget to try their famous fish and chips in newspapers. I assure you, that they are very hygienic.. and definitely a must to try..!

Gas Prices Continues To Go Up

Filed under: Business/Career, Random Ranting, This Town - Mama BoK @ 12:17 am

“Prices at the gas pumps were 12.7 per cent higher than they were in September of last year. That was because of a sudden drop in gas prices a year ago rather than any increase between August and September, Statistics Canada said.

With gas prices going up again this year due to inflation, that would mean . .that we are going to have a very expensive winter too. If you are like us.. and owns a store.. or two… it is definitely gonna be a hard winter. So how do one survive..?? there is really no way to. How can a small business like ours.. compete with Walmart..?? no way..! heating the store will cost us a big fortune .. on top of everything. .we have to pay for power, internet.. inventory and phone bills, bill for the swiping machine.. bill to clean the glass windows, bill to garbage collector, bills to keep the inventory at a decent level and of course the rent and employees.

Property Investment

With the loonie soaring everyday against the US$, this is the best time for the Canadians to invest in American property. For many years, I’ve seen the Americans taking the boat across from Maine and staying in their summer houses here in Nova Scotia because of their high currency. About time, we Canadians go over and invest some of our good/real money over the American soil.

Long Island NY real estate, has a complete listing for Nassau County and the Long Island area as well as the Suffolk and Queens County. With a team of professionals to help you select the best properties and work with you from the viewing to the closing, i’m sure you will find them most efficient and totally reliable. So if you are thinking of investing, like we are and taking advantage of the exchange rate, now is the time.

Folks are writing to the local papers .. asking the town.. to re-consider and to set their priority right..! at least 4 letters has been published.. and i’m sure many more feels the same.. but not doing anything.

To me.. it’s a very sad situation here. There is nothing i can do.. nor it seems to .. for others here too.. because apparently even the tender for the new building was not an open one..?? I was shocked..! and appalled .. but that’s the understatement of the year. I am sure.. alot of ppl from this small town feels the same too.. shocked and appalled. But since I am not a citizen in Canada.. and my hopes are to go back to Asia with PB .. more now.. because of this situation here.. i am not saying a thing.

Blog Hosting

Filed under: Blog News, Useful Links 101 - Mama BoK @ 11:52 pm

Many of my friends have asked for advice with regards blog hosting and its advantages. And of course everyone wants to know .. what kind of money we are talking about hosting your own blog. As you all know, I’m not very technically inclined nor I am very internet savvy but one thing I know .. and that is very important to me is .. if i have my blog hosted by a reliable web hosting company, I will not fear of losing all my years of writing.. and patiently documenting my daughter’s growth and achievement. Losing all my entry was the greatest fear I had working with a free provider.

For a very small price, you can afford a hosting and design service. Starting at $9.99, for a Movable Type Hosting, which includes, free installation and initial configuration of Movable Type (very, very helpful to woman like me, who knows absolutely nothing about installation and configuration). A step-by-step video tuturial, free upgrades when new versions of MT is released. Helping you to transfer your account from an cPanel host, free account setup and of course they don’t force you to have long-term contracts thus making it so much less stressful for you. They are so efficient that you new blog can be up and running on your own domain name within hours.

So start blogging with a quality host, that is affordable, efficient, flexible and most importantly, willing to help you set up. Wordpress hosting starts as cheap as $6.99/month with disk space of 1GB.

I know that buying from a jewelry store online can be stressful if you’re not really sure what to expect. With that in mind, I always recommend Adolf Jewelers, the Virginia jeweler with the selection you’d expect from an online store, but with the service you can really only get by going into an actual store. Their selection of designer jewelry and diamond engagement rings is second to none, and the staff there is great at making sure you find the perfect piece for whomever you’re shopping for. Check them out today and I’m sure you’ll be shopping with them for a long time. Relax, they’ll make you happy!

So mummies and daddies out there.. if your child isn’t doing something that your friend’s kid had been doing for a long time.. donch fret.. because in their own time.. they would surprise you .. and just do it on their own. That is how Chloe had been all the time.

HouseWarming

Our good customer/friend, Miguel just moved into his new home, a much smaller one with his lovely daughter.. and wife. And because the house is alot smaller than the one they used to have, they had to sell away their huge 52″ tv and bought a new plasma tv instead. PB and I thought it was nice to be able to just go out and buy a plasma without even giving any thoughts to the money involved but we know Miguel is RICH.. muahahahha!!

So for their housewarming, we will be getting him a plasma stand, something we know he will use for a long time and will remember us everyday, for who doesn’t watch the tv everyday right. We only want to get gifts that constantly reminds our friends that we are the best. Muahahhaha!!

My Mature Skin

When one is younger, you don’t need to worry too much about anything, especially your skin. But as one becomes older like yours truly, you not only become aware, you can sometimes get paranoid too. Why..?? because you start noticing things on your face and your body that you’ve never noticed before and you know you cannot ignore it, when your your neighbour’s 2 year old ask his mother what are those lines around your eyes.

Yes.. we do all age.. but for me, I want to age gracefully and beautifully. And one shouldn’t be ashamed or afraid.. to let others know that they are using Anti Wrinkle & Anti Aging Skin Care Treatment, afterall, a woman has got to do what they’ve got to do right..? But what I’m seriously more interested in, is the Rejuvawand. It is a light based alternative to botox injections, microdermabrasion, IPL photo rejuvenation and other skin care and anti-wrinkle treatments. I’ve seen my esthetician use this on my face many years ago before coming to Canada.

Business Cutting Prices As Loonie Goes Up

Filed under: Business/Career, This Town - Mama BoK @ 9:49 pm

“Wal-Mart Canada and Zellers announced Friday they too are cutting prices.”

About time we are able to get movies from Zellers or Walmart at American prices.. eh..? Yup.. with the US$ going down, when one can get movies at say $17, we are still paying like $30 Canadian for ours. Strange as it is.. since loonie is higher than the US$ .. we are still paying alot more for a few weeks now..for our movies for the store. Hopefully what Zellers and Walmart is announcing is the truth, and will lower their prices. I will report more on this .. once i see the prices this weekend.

Honory Citizen

“Citizenship Week in Canada runs from October 15 to October 21. This is the 60th anniversary of the Citizenship Act.Canada occasionally bestows an honorary Canadian citizenship to foreigners of exceptional merit. It is a symbolic honour and does not give the recipients any rights, privileges or duties typically held by Canadian citizens. As of 2007, Canada has bestowed the honour on four people, the latest being Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese pro-democracy activist. “

Heard something about the honorary citizen before .. many year ago.. before coming to Canada. And never in the life of me.. did i think that I myself will be applying for citizenship here. Strange as it is.. fate does take a funny turn in one’s life… and one never knows what your future will be. Which reminds me.. that even though i can plan alot of things for my brat right now.. but it’s entirely up to Him .. up there..and fate… what the brat will be.. and where she will end up. Now we donch even dare move our US$ for whatever reason because we lose out so much .. in terms of bank charges as well. I wonder how is it affecting our Asian counterparts..? Mint Credit Card

Mint Credit Cards are so popular in UK that everyone who is a resident of UK and 18 above, will surely benefit from it. Offering you numerous options for your credit card needs, you do not need to look for different cards elsewhere.

But of course credit cards are meant for those using them responsibly and not those who do not want to pay their bills. So if you are looking for a no interest on balance transfer for 13 months, they are definitely where you should go. And the 0% on all purchases till May 2008 that they are offering is too good to refuse especially with Christmas just round the corner. With a credit card that offers so much, I know that I can not only have a good Christmas but also plan to pay everything before May 2008 in order not to be charged with interest like some of the other credit card companies would do. Credit cards are great to have but once again, use them wisely and responsibly and never get into debt for it.

Welfare Day

Filed under: Amusing/Musing, This Town - Mama BoK @ 2:34 pm

As expected .. today is welfare day.. so you know what it does for our business right..? i call it welfare day.. although it is the children’s cheque day… where Canadian government gives money to the mothers, depending on how many child you have and how much income you bring it.

Most mothers here don’t work.. and they have like 4 - 5 children.. and more if they can.. so that the welfare cheques can be higher than most. A child can get up to $500 each from the government.. and that’s not including the real welfare cheques they are getting at the end of the month. Some mothers are very smart.. because they work for about 800 - 1200hrs.. and then they quit their jobs.. to get full unemployment .. citing they have to take care of their kids.. and of course they get it.. and then for the next year or so.. they won’t have to work.. but get paid..! yup.. some do know how to work the system. It is a sad situation.. because my mother had 4 kids.. and as far as i know.. she never stopped working .. till she retired at 55 yrs old.

Nova Scotia the costliest province

Filed under: Random Ranting, This Town, Around The World - Mama BoK @ 2:09 pm

“On a province-by-province basis, the highest undergraduate charges for tuition only were in Nova Scotia ($5,878), New Brunswick ($5,733) and Ontario ($5,381). The lowest were in Quebec ($2,025) and Newfoundland and Labrador ($2,633).”

For those who are not aware of this.. Canadian students going to college gets a government loan for their studies.. before school term starts. Depending on what your parents make for a living, some gets a good $12,000 - $15,000 in loan for accommodation and all. Student loans are payable right after you finish your school.. or if you quit school. Alot of students here.. quit before they even finishes the first year, some because they are home sick and others, they are just not into it. I know that a majority of students who gets their loan from the government don’t even pay them back.. because as soon as they get the money, they actually spend it on things .. like a new computer or a new laptop instead of using it wisely. Therefore, they quit school.. because they can no longer afford the expenses for the rest of the year. Canadians are actually very lucky ppl .. they just haven’t been to asia..to know that we donch get as much welfare as they do.

Networking Group

A few days ago, while in the store, a member of the local business organization handed me a brochure for the networking group for the women in town. For the last 7 yrs year, apparently i was invisible . . and only visible when a donation is required. I was invited to join in their activities.. on a monthly basis with luncheons and all. All these are not unfamiliar to me.. for once upon a time.. i too was actively involved with the networking of professional women in Singapore.

Unfortunately, if you have been following my blog, you would know my view of this wonderful town .. and the ppl running this place. We’ve attended one business meeting in town a few years ago and it was a total waste of our time then. Nothing was being down and everything just died a natural death after calling in a consultant to brain-storm the already bad situation in town. And for me to join something like this networking group for women..?? with so many “great” stuff happening for this town in this instant.. i’ll have to pass..!

I’m getting them some small work tools for my father-in-law from Home Depot for my he loves doing his own home renovation around the house. With a 10% discount on all purchases, I can definitely save alot because tools can get really expensive. Can’t forget the nephew and nieces in the United States, so Target it is for them, and with a $5 off for every $50 spent, it’s like a 10 percent discount. Look out for the saving coupons from Coupon Chief and stretch your pennies.

Mexico Vacation Villas

Filed under: Uncategorized, Useful Links 101 - Mama BoK @ 10:08 pm

I don’t know if you are aware of how close Mexico is to Canada. Every winter, Canadians goes in drove for their winter vacation around January to Mexico. And the main reason why they keep going back is because they love the people there. Mexico’s Mayan Riviera is an all time favorite vacation spot for both the young and old. And what makes Mayan Riviera unique is everything you need to do is within a short distance.

Vacationing in Mexico, is truly the most memorable because you can choose to do anything you want or just bum around and enjoy the sea and the sun. Get totally relaxed or get totally adventurous, it is entirely up to the individual. And to be really honest with you, it is a perfect vacation destination for the whole family. Even the “out-laws” (parent-in-laws) would appreciate it and you. So if you are vacationing with the whole family, Mexico Vacation Villas, would be something to seriously consider, because all villas are only 15 - 20 mins away from the airport and centrally located for your convenience for any activities that you so wish to do. Not only are these villas huge enough to house the whole family, you get the kind of privacy you can never get in a resort. With private pool and beach front views and all the amenities that beats even the best resort around… like broadband and Tommy Bahama linens.

Staying in a rented villa does not mean that you still have to cook for the whole family and wash up after them during vacation and be left out of all the fun because super-delicious Chef Miguel is here to help..! Try regional Mayan dishes or fresh fish and seafood caught daily and prepared to perfection. From breakfast to dinner, they cater to your needs and shop fresh if possible for you and your family. Whether you want fajitas or pancakes, they will do their best to keep you tummy happy. For a truly enticing, remarkable and memorable vacation, check out Caribbean’s Hotspot, the Mayan Riviera.

The Leaves Are Turning

The weather is turning colder right at this moment and I’ve always wonder in amusement when the leaves turn red in color. They are of course very beautiful. My FIL loved to show me.. the different colors of the trees.. when i first came to Canada. A few years back, we used to go on road trips.. just to see the trees. The leaves changes color because it need a break after being so busy during the whole summer photosynthesizing, using sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into sugar. And if a tree is sick .. it turns color way too early and that means it doesn’t have too long to live. Very interesting eh..?

PowerShot A560 Digital Cameras

Filed under: Uncategorized, Useful Links 101, Shopping - Mama BoK @ 4:39 pm

Our digital camera is ready to retire, we bought it about 3 yrs ago, when my daughter was born. I don’t think I can survived without a digital camera because I take pictures of my daughter and my surroundings ALOT..! I’m the snap Queen..! I take pictures of everything. Luckily, we now have digital cameras, otherwise, i can’t imagine how much film i have to buy for the ancient camera I had.

The good thing about having a digital camera is, you don’t have to develop any photos that you don’t like or haven’t taken in good light. Not like before, where you have to develop all 36 pictures in a roll of film. Seriously, I thank God.. for digital cameras.

Since I am not the technical person in this household, the hubby after much research is currently looking at the series of PowerShot A560 Digital Cameras. There are definitely, quite a few choices that we can choose from, I for one wants something real simple, just point and shoot type, like the Canon PowerShot A560 7.1MP Digital Camera . Luckily for us, there are so many in this Canon Power”Shot A560 series, we can take our time to do our research before investing in a new one.

Dismal Tourism Season

Filed under: Business/Career, Random Ranting, This Town - Mama BoK @ 4:27 pm

A large hotel chain with two properties in Yarmouth is taking a wait and see approach when it comes to this years dismal tourism season. Rodd Hotels and Resorts operates the Rodd Grand Hotel and the Rodd Colony Harbour Inn. Company president and Chief Operating Officer John Cudmore admits this summer has affected the company’s bottom line.Cudmore says the company will work through the difficult perhaps by closing floors. Cudmore says he believes community involvement in working with marketing partners is the key to turning things around.

If big hotel chains are suffering here in Yarmouth, what can I say about small businesses like ours..?? Truly it is sad to see this town in this state, something went wrong.. along the way.. and if business are suffering the way we are.. how can the town still justify spending all those money .. for building new offices..?? Perhaps the town is churning in money from somewhere..?? but i donch know where it is coming in from or not..?? But as for us .. small business in this town.. and now even a large hotel chain is saying.. “WE ARE BLEEDING!” , so someone please tell me.. what can we all do..?? instead of just whining non-stop..??

Where’s The Refund

Filed under: Random Ranting, Around The World - Mama BoK @ 12:03 am

Not every immigrant to Canada is very happy right at this moment. And rightly so they should be. For those who paid $130K to receive contracts with Nova Scotia business and a fast track ticket to Canadian citizenship, not all will be getting a $100K refund from the government.

“That’s not fair, said Ali Shirazi, a plastic surgeon from Iran who paid nearly $130,000 and completed his contract, but felt he did not get his money’s worth.”

Apparently, Dr Shirazi did not get a job in his field and he wants what is rightfully his. Can’t say I blame the poor doctor from Iran eh..? But was he placed in a fish plant under the business mentor program..?? Paying up front $130K and then getting back a $20K salary for a 6 months contract meaning, they get like 3.3K per month, which normal folks from Nova Scotia make like $1.6K per month. Some complained that th immigration office did not provide them with a suitable mentor.

Chloe ex-family doctor was from Egypt and he didn’t stay long in small town Barrington. I wonder if he was in the same program..?? and let as soon as his 6 months were up..?? But it looks like the immigration office isn’t gonna budge either.

Christopher Paul Neil was apparently working as a teacher in Seoul, South Korea and police believe he fled to Thailand after Interpol recently posted unscrambled pictures of his face. Thailand’s neighbours have put border guards on alert.”

You just don’t know who your neighbours or friends are.. or should i say.. what they really are. It’s never too careful to play careful.. and never too paranoid to be paranoid.. when it comes to your children. People like that are quite sick and they need help..! You can’t stop pedophiles.. but you can always watch your kids… and like i tell PB and keegan .. when they are watching chloe .. whether at home or outta home, that they have gotta watch the brat like a hawk… coz’ you never know.. who is just out there.. lurking.. and plotting. Pass The School Bus and You Die..!

Filed under: Uncategorized, Amusing/Musing, This Town - Mama BoK @ 11:26 pm

“Motorists face a penalty of six points against the licence and $394.50 (first offence) for illegally passing a school bus.”

School Bus Safety Awareness week is extremely important in this town where incidences of vehicles passing school buses illegally while picking up or dropping of their kids are extremely high and frequent. I am pretty happy to know that the fine for the first offence alone is so high because motorist needs to take care of the children on the bus. Last year alone, we’ve seen so many incidences happening with the school children and school buses. It is too frightening to let your kids go onto those buses.

By the way, in Canada.. school buses are free to use for kids attending school all over the province, unlike in Asia, we do not have to pay for transportation. Pretty cool eh..?

The Loonie Flying High

Filed under: Business/Career, Amusing/Musing, Around The World - Mama BoK @ 5:53 pm

One has to wonder if the loonie is gonna continue to fly high for awhile.. if it is a good or bad thing for us.

“The soaring Canadian dollar was one of the main topics of discussion during a local business luncheon last week that featured a presentation by James Westlake, group head of Canadian banking with RBC Financial Group.”

If you are buying properties in the U.S. of course it would be very good news for you. But if you are making US dollars and spending it in Canada, then like us, you will be concerned. In fact very concerned. The Canadian dollars is still going strong against the US dollars as far as I am concerned today, as to whether the US dollars will bounced back in 2008, no one even dares to predict or speculate. I don’t really know what to think of this money situation, but it sure doesn’t work in favour of us right now, not only because of our business and the tourist that we depend on in this town.. but other online businesses and businesses that we have in other part of the world.

Thoughtful Gift

This afternoon, Keegan (babysitter) came into the store..and handed me a gift. A very thoughtful one.. i’ll have to say. You see I love home fragrance oil but because we haven’t been to Halifax for so long, I can’t get any here locally… because there is no Body Shop here. And Keegan knowing that.. since i’m outta it for a few weeks now.. she bought me something similar to what i am used to.. from the Body Shop.. orange flavour.. and from her own pocket.. not expecting that I will pay her back for it.

Now you tell me.. isn’t she thoughtful..!! We are indeed very lucky to have Keegan. She is never whiny.. nor does she demands for anything. She does her job well.. and dependable. And she is only 17..! alot of those that we’ve hired before isn’t even half as good as she is. I only thank God.. again.. and again.. for Keegan.

Scrubs & Beyond

Filed under: Useful Links 101 - Mama BoK @ 4:10 am

Many years ago, when my mom was working in the hospital, all the provided was a white uniform, irregardless if you were a nurse or a cleaning lady in the hospital, it was white. But things has changed considerably in the hospital, in fact i noticed the first changes in the children’s ward in the hospital. The nurses and even doctors at the children’s ward had nice fancier scrubs than all the rest in the hospital… but that was many years ago of course.. and now, in every hospitals, you will see that for every individual department in the hospitals, the staff wears appropriate scrubs according to the specialty of the ward.

Scrubs from Katherine Heigl Scrubs, are not only comfortable but very stylish as well, they even have winter scrubs, that are not only in a pretty shade, they have move-friendly side slits, for making sure that the nursing staff will not be restricted when helping a patient. Medical Scrubs, are no longer in boring white or dark colors anymore, they can have them in peach color as well. And they come in all sizes for your Nursing Scrubs, prices are even more affordable if you buy them in groups. With Halloween round the corner, how about looking at some peaches Halloween scrubs to cheer up those that are sick in the hospital.

My mother-in-law wears scrubs too, but i assure you, she doesn’t work for the hospital. But it is so comfortable during the hot summer.. we should get her some from Katherine Heigl, so she can go into the gardens not only looking chic but extremely comfortable as well.

Mint Cards

The Royal Bank of Scotland is behind the Mint Credit Cards and for those who are resident of UK and 18 above, you sure have alot to benefit from with what they are currently offering for creidt cards. I don’t know how some folks uses their credit cards but everyone should only apply for credit cards responsibly and not abuse the use of this credit cards and the trust that the bank give to you. Making use of a good credit card can build up your credit rating, but abuse it.. and you will probably be black-listed for future loans like buying a house.

Mint Cards has so many different credit cards to offer to their customer/s. If you are looking for a no interest on balance transfer for 13 months, they are definitely where you should go. Credit cards are great to have but once again, one has got to choose wisely and make sure the credit cards you have benefits you.

Omega-3 Food

As a mother .. we all need to know what is good for your child and her health. Like me ..i’m always on a look out for news about the intake of food that we give her. We all know that Omega-3 is beneficial to health, but so many products are coming up these days, proclaiming the benefit status of it. So which one is the healthiest to get for the lil’ brat .. i often wonder.

“According to experts, some types of Omega-3 fatty acids are better than others.”

But be warned that not all Omega-3s are the same and adding them to foods can reduce their health benefits. So be careful what you feed your child. Omega fats are not as good as the ones found in fish. As a mother, you need to educate themselves about which Omega-3s to look for. Donch just follow blindly .. what your friends do.. or what they feed their kids. You need to find out better and more.. before putting them in the mouth of your kid.

Teak Furniture At Its Best

Filed under: Useful Links 101, Home Furnishing - Mama BoK @ 3:42 pm

I love teak furnitures, and let me tell you teak furnitures are not for the old folks only, my grandma buys teak furniture all the time and she said the reason why she buys them is because you don’t have to worry that it might rot no matter what the weather condition is because teak furnitures are considered gold standard. Nothing resists better than natural teak. Not only is teak furniture beautiful it is also the most robust outdoor furniture that one can buy.

We buy teak chairs alot because we love the outdoors and we spend alot of time outdoors. With absolutely no maintenance require for a teak chair, how can one not invest in it. My grandmother has Teak Furniture left outdoors for almost a century and none of them has rot. One of the reasons that teak is so weather-resistant is that it has a natural rubber content and a high oil content sort of a built-in natural water repellent. Even better, exposure to the sun actually activates the natural oils. You can mix and match teak with your leather ones for indoor use.

If you are thinking of buying some, now is the best time to do it because there is a no tax sale on. Don’t you miss it now..!

In which i had already warned her .. it was very “hot” as in spicy. But she was quite gung-ho about it.. and was determined to try it.. so i let her.

Well.. you could sorta guessed what happened.. muahhahahaha!! and i had already told her to get some pop or cold water ready.. but she didn’t.. so you can guess who ran to the cooler.. faster than speedy gonzales.. muahahahhhahaa!! I was tickled.. ! because no one thinks the chilli i have .. is spicy.. till they try it.. muahahhaha!! now dear keegan can go tell her parents and friends.. that it is confirmed.. i’m the “Crazy Chinese Woman” for eating such horrid stuff.. muahahahahaha!!

So the “ang mohs” here… better be careful .. and be real nice to me… coz’ i might just serve you with some really “hot” noodles or rice.. muahahhahahaha!!! if you donch play nice.

Package With Love

Filed under: Uncategorized, Family/From the Heart, Around The World - Mama BoK @ 8:08 pm

This is the second package that came this month for Chloe and I. The first was from Irene from Alberta - Bit & Pieces and now another big package from USA. This is from Chloe’s Auntie Greenapple.. (to-be-chinese godparents) , inside were goodies for both Chloe and I and another very thoughtful gift of wedding pictures and a CD of her wedding. Wait i post all pictures up later ya..!

I was kinda afraid .. that it might not arrived.. because this isn’t the first time.. Greenapple sent gifts of food.. and presents to us. But i guess it took so long.. because .. custom stopped it.. as it wasn’t declared. So they opened it up apparently.. and kept it there for a few weeks longer.

Thank you very much.. Greenapple..!! we love all your gift.. and chloe is very amused with hers. Pictures to follow ya.. :)

Lockers MarketPlace

Filed under: Uncategorized - Mama BoK @ 7:56 pm

The schools here have lockers for the students and collects a small fee of $20.00 per year from each student. Unlike back home.. students have to bring a full bag of books.. just to attend a 8 period of different classes in a day. One cannot help but feel sorry for these Asian kids. Some have book bags heavier than themselves, which makes me wonder why schools in asia .. do not have School Lockers, for their students.. like we do have here. What is the logic of making the poor kid lugged so many textbooks and exercise books everyday to school and might not even use it.. except for the textbooks.

Steel Lockers would be ideal. .for older school children.. while Plastic lockers are ideal for those in pre-school and primary school. Surely, it cannot be the school has no fundings for these lockers, for i know that the government subsidize alot of things when it comes to the education for the kids. And it’s not like they are not affordable. Lockerixhange has low prices and is your fully customized locker solution designed for your specific needs.

Someone should freaking give the brat a good spanking with a wooden spoon..!

Furnishing The House

Filed under: Uncategorized - Mama BoK @ 2:10 pm

I pride myself for having good taste when it comes to furnishing my house. The men sure don’t know that the value of your home is raised.. when you have a proper furnished home. Something as simple as lighting , can enhance and change the whole room, if the right ones were chosen to hang in different rooms.

I’ve always wanted to portray my house as a warm house. Not stark bright like the ones my mom’s used to have. She likes it bright coz’ she can see better she said.. ! our childhood home looked like the hospital instead..! Minka lavery lighting is the perfect choice for some of our rooms, their designs are very unique and exquisite. Whether you are going for the contemporary look, the traditional one or even something like the mini-rod-drops for your dining area, they are all at a price you cannot resist.

Furnishing your home or home improvement need not cost an arm and a leg, choosing wisely on lighting that suit the whole concept/theme of your house, a room at a time, like those of Forecast Lighting can add class even to your bathroom using the Arch Collection. I bet your guests to your house will make you the talk of talk just for that.

Only So Much One Can Take

Filed under: Brat Stuff, Random Ranting, The Other Half - Mama BoK @ 12:33 pm

I’m staying home with the brat.. so the PB can take a break. Afterall, one can only take so much.. with the brat right..! not sleeping for almost 2 weeks now. Waking up at all hours in the nite.. and the morning.. and if we are not in the puter room with her.. she would be in our room.. waking us up.. to go be with her.. while she tries and go back to sleep.

Well.. she only let me sleep like at 5am this morning. .and got up at 8am.. wanted me up with her.. but i was too tired.. so PB went to be with her.. and didn’t managed to go back to sleep.. because she wasn’t sleeping good. So PB got like maybe 5hrs of sleep at the most…?? So when i got up.. i decided that the brat and I should stay home.. so that PB .. can go to work.. and not have to deal with the brat… for today.

Yes.. one can only take so much.. and i’m exhausted.. and PB is coughing his lungs out..!

Racing For A Hobby

PB’s cousin, Mel is into car racing for a few years now. And she has been racing in Lake Doucette out in Chattanooga for a few years now.. and she won some prizes. I’ll have to say she is one cool chick, knowing all about lowering the car’s center of gravity with a mustang suspension, to give her more balance when she is racing. All her car services are done excellently. I know she really enjoys her racing and if you ever met her, you’ll never know she is into such a thrilling and exhilarating sport.

Price Chopper Closing

Filed under: Business/Career, Random Ranting, This Town - Mama BoK @ 12:12 am

“A Yarmouth grocery store is closing, putting 32 people out of work. Price Chopper on Starrs Road will close Oct 20th. The store is owned by grocery giant Sobeys. Jill Thomas-Myreck, Director of Communication with Sobey’s Atlantic, says the closure of Price Chopper was a business decision. She says they are working with employees to help them with possible employment opportunities including the Sobey’s store in Yarmouth.”

Sad..?? yup..! after all.. one wouldn’t think that grocery giant would close down one of it subsidiaries. I don’t shop very much in Price Chopper, coz’ i can’t seems to find the things i need there. The staff are not the friendliest… plus the meat is not very fresh. But the in-laws do shop there.. and it’s still sad to see such a long time business closing it’s door .. and at such short notice .. ?? 8 days from today.

Jewelry Shopping

Filed under: Uncategorized - Mama BoK @ 11:13 pm

Women of all ages love earrings, I think it is super inexpensive to buy a woman earrings for a gift. Men always thinks that if a woman wants a piece of jewelry it must mean something huge and expensive. But really, no woman in the right frame of mind would ask for something huge and expensive.

Tasteful jewelry like a Platinum Earrings, is suitable for a younger and vivacious woman and of course, you will find more varieties at shopping.com, my favorite place to buy earrings. As for me, I love the Tri-color earrings, because the color really strike me instantly. Very affordable and at shopping.com, you are totally in control with what you buy. This is for you to compare and then decide to buy at your own pace, no “in a hurry” sales person to make you feel like you are taking too much of their time.

Yes.. the lil’ brat helps.. and is very helpful. Although not wanting to dirty her hands.. she offered to help grampie clean up the corns she was going to have. I wonder if it is the corn… or if she genuinely wants to help.. since she was curious after watching Grampie cleaning them.

Still Loving It

She Loves Her Mushrooms

Filed under: Food Review, Brat Stuff, Amusing/Musing - Mama BoK @ 5:46 pm

The brat loves here mushrooms.. whether it is chinese mushrooms, can mushroom, button mushrooms.. just about any kinda mushroom. I had some that had to be cooked one morning.. so i decided to make mushroom omelet.. and when i had cooked the mushroom.. asked if she wanted some. She didn’t really want them at first.. and that’s not surprising knowing my brat…. fussy, fussy with food.

But after that morning.. she kept asking for mushrooms.. during breakkie time… and i feel really bad.. that i donch have any to cook for her. So anyhow.. i’ll have to force PB to go groceries again.. tomorrow..just to get mushrooms for the brat. I know mushroom is good though.. but can’t remember what they are good for.. but my brat sure eats loads of them.. ! What about yours..??

See the brat digging into the coconut cream pie that my MIL baked last week..?? She picked on all the cream and meringue .. with her fingers.. and it’s only at Grammie’s and Grampie’s that they indulged her.. because according to my MIL .. PB and Uncle Richard also did that.. when they were kids.

No one wants to ever go to court or even know how many law firms there are in town, nor who is the lawyers in those offices. We avoid at all cost at not getting into trouble with the law. And like my grandmother used to say… “never trouble, trouble, till trouble, troubles you”. Wise old woman she is, but she never did informed me.. what i should do when trouble does trouble me.

One never know, when you need a lawyer and when you do need one, we all know what it is going to be like. We really don’t know who we can turn to, nor recommendations not readily given by friends and families. And if you or a loved one had a personal injury or becomes a victim of malpractice, what do one do..?? You know most people I know they don’t even do anything, not because they don’t want to, but they don’t know where to start. Some even find it intimidating to go into a legal firm much less try to pursue a legal claim for injuries and damages.

This is where, Philadelphia Lawyers, with the experience of representing over 5,000 clients understand and empathize with you and your anxiety about your predicament. Using the appropriate experts to help in your specific case and being available at all times to answer any questions you may have and addressing your concern, they serve your needs better after being your lawyer. Efficiency Is Surely Not Their Middle Name

Filed under: Business/Career, Random Ranting, This Town - Mama BoK @ 1:04 pm

A few days ago.. i wrote about how the cops said.. she wasn’t gonna charge us for possession of stolen goods, in a matter of factly way and was supposed to bring in a blue restitution form for us.. to get our money back for the goods we bought from these bunch of crooks right..?

Well .. she was in again.. and when PB asked her about the blue form.. she said… she would bring it down today..! But I’ve yet to hear PB say that she returned with the form after closing.

Efficient is definitely not their middle name i’ll have to say. Fortunately, for my boss in Spain.. he knows that my middle name is “Ms Efficient” .. and i donch disappoint.
